廉价神镜汤姆龙

今天舞神的神镜拿到手了!Tamron 28-75mm 2.8~ 真的很Sharp!

F1.4的强项是:at F1.8, it is still very sharp. 还有,F1.4 的 depth of view。

I use the 85 f1.4 for the picture above coz my friend happened to bring that lens to the studio, so I just borrow and have a try on that. Other than the f1.4 another great feature of the lens is the extreme sharpness. If I remember it right, the picture above was taken at f2, with a ND 8 filter. Another reason for not using the lens in a studio is the range, 85mm wil become around 127mm on non-full frame camera, and not alot of studio can let you shoot with that range, hence people use it more often at outdoor, not just because of the aperture, also because of the range.

For catwalk I tried the best combination is 300mm f2.8 + 70-200 f2.8 + D2Xs ( all are my friend's gear ), Aperture Mode at f4 ...siok !!!

some pictures taken during STYLO in KL ... ( no Post Processing )

D2Xs+300 f2.8 ...有够正!!!

Another reason why I don't recommend using this lens in a studio is the background.
To enhance the effect of having background seriously blurred with outstanding boket, 85mm F1.4 should be used outdoor and in event.

I don't agree you said that you are not a good photographer. Everyone is. Otherwise, we won't be discussing about this lens.

I will go for this lens mainly for outdoor portrait and events. It is not as convenient as my 80-200mm F2.8 but it is a lens that is useful during makeup session in a wedding event and during wedding ceremony in church. I love the effects! Too bad I don't have the pictures to show here (coz I haven't got mine yet).

Hhmm .... Makeup session I will say 50mm f1.8 are best to use, coz the range is more flexible comparing to 85mm in the bride's room which is much more smaller than a Studio. I have my 17~55mm attached most of the time coz it's easier to go foward to the happening are and Snap rather than point a tele to candid, coz there will be alot of people in your way blocking or confusing the focusing. I learn that the hard way. Another thing is the Slow Focusing of 85mm, super the slow unless you attach to a Pro body like the D2H, D2X/D2Xs or D3 with a fast focusing motor in the camera. I tried the the 85mm with my D70s and complain to my friend:" Eh, this lens so slow one ? Rosak kah ?" then then pass me his D2Xs to go along with the lens ... wah ..... super fast ~~~ As Slow Focusing=miss the action during an Event. But so far I think best is to have 2 Body, 1 with a Wide ( 17-55 on non-Full Frame, 24-70 for full frame ) and another with Medium Tele (70~200 /80-200), then a 12-24mm, 50mm and 85mm as stanby lens ... perfect ...

Chris Huong said...

True. 85mm is slow because it is just a D lens. I think Nikon may come out a new version of 85mm 1.4, i hope it will.

Anyway, I have a 85mm F1.8 and have used it to shoot quite a lot of weddings using film (F90x) and starting to use it on digital, so far, I am happy with the results. That's why I will go for a 85mm 1.4. I am used to 85mm already(hehe).

Another lens I am quite interested to get is 35mm F1.4 AIS, of course, this one is not a necessary one but a nice toy(haha, i am talking like I am a super rich photographer)

ahtak wong said...

wah ~ 85mm on a Film ofcoz nice ler ~ but digital shooter with 1.5x crop like me will die, got to stand far far away ~ It's a " Must Have" for any photographer that shoot alot or portriat, Ah Pang ! 85mm f1.4 ah ~~~hehehehe.
Hopefully on a 85mm f1.4 with AF-S loh, but doubt about the quality, as comparing the 80-200 AF-S and 70-200 VR, personally I prefer the 80-200 coz some how it's sharper than the 70-200 VR, and basiccally I dun really need the VR loh, coz most of the time I'll be shooting objects that move more than my handshake ~ kekeke.

Anyway, next buy Should be a used D2Xs or D3 if got money ... Imagine shooting at ISO1600 with virtually no noise at all with a D3...hehehehehe.

Chris Huong said...

yes, I agree with you, that's why 70-200 in not in my wishlist.
My goal, for the body, are D300 and D3, but, like i said, it is just a dream...
but D300 is a must.

I am still using my F90x, and planning to get an used FM2. Even though film is expensive, it is just a minor cost because I only shot one or two rolls per wedding nowadays. It is nice to have a full frame camera, and D3 is so expensive...

VR is not a function that I need. I just want AFs.

ahtak wong said...

Who care the D3 expensive or not if we are earning like LouisPang ~ hahahaha

FM2 wow, I am hunting for 1 also...Superb metering and the Feel Of Film. Might be getting a used D2Xs rather than a D300, coz Pro body Vs Semi Pro Body...
1. Speed. Focusing Speed and FPS.
2. Build. D2Xs are much more solid for field use. I think you can kill a cow with that.keke.
3. The hold. Extremely nice to hold a D2Xs compare to a D300 even with Batt Grip.

You can see there's still alot of those Wedding Photographers are still using D2H/D2Hs, coz no one will print a Billboard size or A0 for Wedding pictures right? But clients nowadays prefer the photographer to have Pro Camera/Lens with super high Megapixel rather than " Nice Pictures", correct me if I'm wrong coz this I heard from someone in KK ...

VR I never use also ler. During JapanGT, VR off ... During Fashion Show, VR off ... Shooting Portrait, lagi off... or maybe is I dunno how you use ?

zero5 phh said...

wow~....

Chris Huong said...

Rumor said that if you are being robbed with D2Xs in hands, just use it to hit the head of the robber and you can continue your photography assignment, just make sure you wipe the body clean, hahaha

Chris Huong said...

You are right. Thanks for sharing. How much is the price for D2Xs, new and used?

Well, most consumers concern about megapixel, that's because they are misled by point and shoot digital camera makers' advertisement.

Megapixel is not a problem, because, PS can manipulate that. To me, lenses are more important the the body. A pro-look body gives you the pro-look, but for a wedding, D300 is much more than enough.

I will consider also D2Xs, if the price is not much different from D300.

As far as I know, my friends never use VR as well.

Chris Huong said...

I am actually quite desperate for 14-24 and 24-70, what do you think?

Chris Huong said...

Hi zero5phh, sorry we have been discussing camera and lenses in your blog, hope you don't mind

zero5 phh said...

is ok.

ahtak wong said...

Sorry, didnt get any mail updates from here ...... dunno why ...

D2Xs/D2X i think is around RM7.5 for a used, brand new unit I don't think you still can get any loh. The reason of me wanting a D2Xs is the Speed, processing speed, Focusing Speed, and ofcoz the Pro Body. Holding a D2Xs on hand and a D300 ( with Batt Grip ) are totally Different case, Pro Body make other Non-Pro body looks like toy... Make my d70s looks like LOMO cam ... HAHAHAHAH. If I am using the D2Xs or D300 I will start to shoot in JPEG, coz the metering are so much more accurate than the D70s, as you can see on the Fashion Show Picture I posted upstairs, and hence save abit of memory and processing power on my MBP.

14-24 f2.8 and the 24~70 f2.8 are replacement for their older models, which are meant for the FX or Full Frame Body, that's why they have the 17-55 f2.8 for those who uses body with 1.5x crop factor. Didn't heard much about the 24-70 f2.8 but alot are complaining the 14-24 that can't fit any filter infront of the front element, which is abit like a fish eye lens, tiny scratch on the front elements means you can throw away the lens already ... I tried my Friend's older 28~70 f2.8, so the sharp and the design are so much more better than the old ones ( I think lah ... ). But too bad that range will become 42~105mm, abit too long for me, so I will stick to my 17-55mm, and wait for second body + 80-200, I still love Nikon's old lens design ....

Finally got chance to use the 85 f1.4 during a wedding assignment ... kekekeke
